DCPA Accreditation for Continuing Education

  • DCPA has been granted recognition by the APA as a fully approved sponsor of Continuing Education Programs for CE credit beginning January 1, 2016.
  • 2015, 2014, and 2013 accreditation provided through the South Carolina Psychology Association. (DCPA and SCPA co-sponsor these programs). South Carolina Psychological Association maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
  • 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014 accreditation for social work granted for selected and approved programs
  • 2012 accreditation was provided by the Government of the District of Columbia Department of Mental Health. (Saint Elizabeths Hospital Dept. of Psychology)
  • All programs that provide continuing education are APA approved. If the Board of Psychology has any questions concerning accreditation please have them contact our Association Manager, Kendall Braxton at info@dcpsychology.org 
    ** For years 2012 - 2015, in addition to DCPA, please list accrediting sponsors on All License Renewals. Please note this step is ESSENTIAL.

REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKSHOP APPROVAL BY DCPA/APA

If you are interested in applying for DCPA Continuing Education sponsorship to offer continuing education credits for psychologists, please send the following information to Steve Stein at s613s@aol.com and info@dcpsychology.org

An application must include the workshop title, number of continuing education credits (hours), the instructional method, learning objectives, and the instructor(s) name(s), CV and references (4-5).

o   Educational objectives;

o   A description of the target audience and the instructional level of the workshop (introductory, intermediate, or advanced);

o   Schedule/Agenda;

o   Instructor credentials, including relevant professional degree and discipline, current professional position, and expertise in program content;

o   The number of CE credits offered for each workshop;

o   A clear indication of any activities within a workshop/program that are not offered for CE credit.

o   Any known commercial support for CE workshops/programs or instructors. Any other relationships that could be reasonably construed as a conflict of interest also must be disclosed.

o   Sponsors must assure that when referring to APA approval, the correct statement is used in all promotional materials such as ads, brochures, and announcements. When referring to APA approval, the following statement must be used:

"The District of Columbia Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The District of Columbia Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content."

Indicate which criteria your workshop/program(s) meet. Briefly describe how the program content meets the specified criterion, providing relevant references or up to 5 representative citations. You must check the applicable box(es) and provide a narrative.  Attach additional documentation if necessary.

  • Program content has obtained credibility, as demonstrated by the involvement of the broader psychological practice, education, and science communities in studying or applying the findings, procedures, practices, or theoretical concepts.
  • Program content has been studied according to established procedures of scientific scrutiny that can be reasonably relied upon.
  • Program content has peer reviewed, published support beyond those publications and other types of communications devoted primarily to the promotion of the approach.
  • Program content is related to ethical, legal, statutory or regulatory policies, guidelines, and standards that impact psychology.

If you are requested by DCPA to present a workshop, there is no charge. Otherwise, the application fee is:
